Detective Michael Dunn, a dedicated 16-year veteran of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and esteemed member of the LVMPD Honor Guard. Prior to his career with LVMPD, Michael served his country for 16 years in the United States Marine Corps, he was deployed on two separate tours to Iraq.
Michael began facing a significant health challenge in late 2022 with the onset of sever stomach pains. These pains led to the discovery of a large, unidentified mass in his stomach after a visit to the emergency room post- Thanksgiving. This discovery necessitated immediate surgery and intensive care, revealing a rare type of cancerous tumor.
Despite an initial successful surgery to remove the mass and months of recovery, a follow-up PET scan in November 2023 showed new growth in his liver, which was diagnosed as malignant liver cancer. Due to the rarity and complexity of his cancer, standard treatments are not viable. Michael was under the care of the Cancer Center of Nevada, receiving innovative treatments, including oral chemotherapy and nutritional infusions.
On July 24 th , 2024, Michael passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Michael is survived by his wife Lori and two beautiful children, Kyle, and Paige.
This fundraiser supports Michael’s family, helping to cover medical and funeral expenses.
